Welcome to Year 6

Art work inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's sketches of the heart. We have been using different types of shading

Year 6 have been using their class text, 'The Boy in the Tower' to inspire some fantastic newspaper reports

Getting Gory!

In Science lessons this week, we have been learning about blood and describing the different parts that make up blood. Today we recreated blood samples using: 

Water and yellow food colour = plasma 

Cheerios and red food colour = red blood cells 

Mini marshmallows = white blood cells 

Purple cotton buds = platelets 

 

Using the outdoor chalkboard to work on our percentages in Maths!

DT Week - Making Aprons. Year 6 have been cutting, sizing, sewing and tie dying their own aprons!

Egg Parachute! During Science week, Year 6 used their forces and air resistance knowledge to create a parachute to stop an egg from breaking

Science Week 2021 - Build Bridges. Children worked in groups to make the strongest bridge

Mountain Art

Next week, our World Book Day activities will be based around author and expeditionist, Matthew Dickinson. As many of his books and stories are based on his climb of Mount Everest, we had a go a creating our own pieces of art inspired by the mountain. Screen-free activities.

Monday 8th February saw the children learning remotely take some time out to do some screen-free activities. It seems we have an influx of chefs and bakers on Year 6. Cyprien made a tiramisu, Seb made guacamole and Sofia baked a cake.

Charles Darwin's Finches - Adaptation

Libby recreated an experiment at home to show how Darwin learned of the Galápagos Islands' finches and how they adapted to their environment.

Making Christmas Decorations and using our Maths! 

We have been looking at the different parts of a circle: Circumference, Radius and Diameter. We each made snowmen with 3 different sized circles and using compasses and our Maths skills to work out the diameter, radius and circumference for each circle

 

DT Week - Food Technology 

 

This week has seen Year 6 learning about 'on the go' food products and what makes a successful on the go food product. Before we design and make our own, we had to do some food tasting. The chicken tikka pasties went down a storm!

Art lessons this week have seen us exploring colours using chalk to create a 'Northern Lights' Masterpiece 

 

Air Pollution (October 2020)

The beginning of the school year saw us embark on the topics: 'Here We Are' and 'Caring for the Planet'. As a result, we researched the devastating facts surrounding the issue of air pollution in our city. Watch our video highlighting the problem and some possible solutions!

And then there was light.... 

Science lessons this term have been focused around our topic 'Electricity' and our first lesson saw us recapping and exploring circuits and their key components.

In English we have been reading Shakespeare's classic play: The Tempest.

School Council 

 

Well done to Maggie and Kassius on being voted as Year 6's Class Representatives for the School Council. We can't wait to see them in action.

 

 

Art 19.10.20

Black History Month has seen us learning about black trail blazers and how innovative people have impacted our lives and changed the world for the better. We have been learning about local Lambeth MP: Florence Eshalomi. Today we began artwork of Florence inspired by the late Jon Daniel's 'Afro Supa Hero' posters. Watch this space for final pieces 

 

Student Council

 

It was great to see democracy in action last week as children took to the ballot to vote in the Student Council elections. Amazing effort and speeches from everyone who put themselves up. Councillors will be announced this week.
