Developing a love of reading

Learning to love reading is the most powerful tool that we can give our children. Whether a child loves to read, and reads voraciously, is the single biggest indicator for future success and happiness. We believe strongly that children should find themselves represented in the literature that they read. That is why we have recently restocked our book corners with diversity in mind.

Early Years and Key Stage 1

In addition to the phonics books and Oxford Reading Tree books each week we send home a book that each child has chosen because they wish to explore it.

Key Stage 2

By Year 3, children who are already fluent will be selecting their own books. In some cases, the staff at school may help them to choose a book that is best suited to where they are individually with their reading.
