Reading

How do we teach reading at Macaulay?

Welcome to the Reading Zone

Reading is the single biggest influence on children’s successes throughout their lives. Did you know that children who are avid readers by the age of 10 go on to higher GCSE results in across the board - including Maths?

Enthusiastic readers have far wider vocabularies from which they can both understand and articulate their experiences of the world we live in.

That is why reading is our highest priority at Macaulay. We have a clearly structured and sequential approach to learning to read that expertly teaches phonics, fluency, deep understanding and analytical skills.

Above all we believe that a love of reading is the gateway to the curriculum and a love of life and learning.
