Welcome to Year 4!

Volcanic Eruption

We had a big piece of paper and a plastic cup half filled with water. First we added 3 teaspoons of alkali(bicarbonate of soda) and mixed it until it dissolved. We put a squirt of washing up liquid. Next, we put 4 drops of food colouring to make the mixture dark red. Finally, we stepped back and dropped a big squirt of acid(vinegar) to make a chemical reaction!!! This made all the chemicals lift up and go all bubbly, which is called carbon dioxide. As it spread out, it made a pyroclastic flow it was extremely fast. This made me feel amazed and excited.
