Learning to read with fluency

The Oxford Reading Tree is a scheme with different levels where children are gradually introduced to more complex words and ideas. The central characters are Biff, Chip, Kipper and Floppy the dog. You will get to know them all very well!

In addition to the phonics books that your child takes home weekly, they will also be working on an Oxford Reading Tree book each week at home and at school. The Oxford Reading Tree book focuses more on fluency and understanding. Parents and Carers have an extremely important part to play in teaching children to learn to read. Please see the link from the reading home page ‘How parents and carers can support at home’.

Over the years the children move through different colour books bands starting at level 1 (lilac) and moving all the way through to level 11 (lime). You can find more information here:  https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/reading-schemes-oxford-levels/oxford-reading-tree-levels/
